Hi, I'm Evva ๐
I'm a software engineering student at the University of Guelph who loves turning ideas into practical technology. From building apps that solve real-world problems to exploring cloud computing and cybersecurity, I'm always looking for new ways to learn, create, and improve. Looking for a winter 2027 co-op.
A Little About Me
I'm currently studying software engineering at the University of Guelph, where I'm building my foundation in programming, software development, and problem-solving. I'm specializing in cybersecurity and minoring in project management. I enjoy exploring new technologies, teaching myself new skills, and taking on projects that challenge me beyond what I'm learning in school.
Outside of school, I'm a long-time softball player and I currently coach a U13 rep team. Coaching has taught me a lot about communication, leadership, teamwork, and adapting to different people's needs, and I bring those same skills into my technical projects, where I enjoy thinking about not how something works, but how it can work better for the people who are using it.
I'm also a member of the University of Guelph AWS Cloud Computing Club and the University of Guelph GDG (Google Developer Groups) Club as well.
ClearCall
ClearCall
ClearCall is a wearable communication app designed to provide a more accessible alternative to expensive, specialized communication systems used in competitive baseball and softball teams. The project connects an Android phone to a Google Pixel Watch over Bluetooth, allowing a coach to send signals from a sideline device directly to a player wearing the watch on the field. The watch provides both vibrations and on-screen messages, allowing the player to receive instructions quickly during a game.
I developed the project with softball in mind, exploring how wearable technology can improve communication between pitchers, catchers, and coaches in game. Using Android Studio and AI assistant development tools, I worked through the challenges of implementing Bluetooth communication and connecting the phone and watch components. The project gave me hands-on experience with mobile development, device connectivity, and designing technology around the practical needs of its users.
Systems & Applications
Dynamic Practice Planner
The Dynamic Practice Planner is an app concept designed to help coaches manage practice schedules and drills when things don't always run according to plan. Coaches can enter drill names, plan durations, minimum and maximum time limits, and importance of each drill.
When a drill finishes earlier or later than expected, the planner automatically redistributes the difference across the remaining drills, taking their relative importance into account. This helps coaches adapt to real-world changes while keeping their practices organized and prioritizing what matters most.
I developed the core scheduling and logic of this in C and then have built the rest of the project using AI-assisted development. The concept is currently being tested by two coaches, giving me an opportunity to evaluate the logic against real-world coaching workflows and improve the experience based on user feedback.
Beans Recovery Tracker
The Beans Recovery Tracker is a recovery care tracking app inspired by the challenges of caring for my dog recovering from a spinal injury, IVDD. When our dog, Bean, was requiring lots of care, it was hard for all the family members to coordinate medication, meals, bathroom breaks, and other daily tasks.
I wanted to create a simple way for everyone to record updates and see what's already been done throughout the day. The app uses a shared tracking approach with Firebase helping synchronize information across multiple family members' phones.
I built the interface using HTML and CSS, exploring how backend services could support shared data and a more connected user experience. This project combines my interest in software development with a personal motivation for my dog, Bean, making a stressful caregiving process more organized, consistent, and manageable for my family.
Experience & Leadership
KW Escape
Working at KW Escape gave me experience working with customers, collaborating with teammates, and helping create engaging experiences for visitors. The role strengthened my communication, adaptability, and real-world problem-solving skills in a fast-paced interactive environment.
I also was able to learn how to build custom 3D printed game pieces for the escape rooms using AstroPrint, diagnosing hardware components, and fixing puzzle mechanisms.
U13 Competitive Softball Assistant Coach
As an assistant coach for the Kitchener Klassics U13 competitive rep program, I support player development through practices, skill-building activities, and team instruction. After more than a decade of playing myself, I enjoy using my experience to help the younger athletes develop their skills and confidence.
I also contribute to creating practice resources and worksheets that reinforce learning beyond the field. Coaching has strengthened my leadership, communication, planning, and teamwork skills, teaching me how to adapt my approach with different players. Softball has been the inspiration for a lot of my personal projects.
AWS Cloud Computing Club
As a member of the AWS Cloud Computing Club at the University of Guelph, I'm exploring cloud computing and expanding my understanding of the technologies used to build and deploy modern applications.
Being involved in the club gives me opportunities to learn beyond the classroom, connect with other students who are also eager to explore cloud architecture, and participate in collaborative workshops.
